Clay Residential is led by a team of individuals who have been creating and enhancing residential communities throughout Texas for over four decades. This team is now solely focused on building top-quality single-family homes in premier Texas communities and making them available for rent. Ryan is Co-Founder and Principal at Clay Residential. Ryan is an experienced real estate investment executive with a 25-year track record that includes more than $4.5 billion in closed private equity real estate transactions across multiple property types, markets, investment strategies and deal structures. Prior to co-founding Clay Residential, Ryan was a Managing Director at BlackRock, a global investment manager with over $9 trillion in assets under management. 

Ryan joined BlackRock in 2006 and during his tenure he was responsible for sourcing real estate investment opportunities across all product types in the Central, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Additionally, Ryan served as co-head of BlackRock’s Real Estate Capital Markets group from 2008-10 where he led restructuring and financing efforts during the Global Financial Crisis. Prior to joining BlackRock, Ryan began his career in 1998 at Principal Real Estate Investors where he was responsible for acquisitions, dispositions and asset management in the Central US markets.  

Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in finance with an emphasis in Real Estate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1998. 

Mickey Pizzitola currently serves as a Principal at Clay Residential, a developer of build to rent homes and communities where he is responsible for operations of the homebuilding aspects of the company. Mickey brings over 40 years of senior level management experience in single family home building in both the public and private sector. 

Prior to joining Clay Residential, Mickey served in key executive-levels roles at Historymaker Homes, Camcorp, MI Homes, Triumph Homes, Meritage Homes, and Legend Homes. His experience encompasses acquisitions, turning hemorrhaging companies into profitable companies, product development, and improving customer service and quality.  

Mickey has been active in the Greater Houston Builders Association since 1994, served on its Board of Directors for over ten years and was President of the association and its 1400 members in 2002.

Maria is the CFO/COO of Clay Road Development LLC.  Maria brings over 35 years of fiscal and operations experience to the residential and commercial housing sectors.  Prior to joining Clay Residential Development, she served in senior-level finance and operations roles for several housing organizations, including Legend Homes, Triumph Homes, Meritage Homes, and Royce Homes. During her career, she helped develop new systems with a team for a national builder and led the team that implemented the systems within each of its divisions throughout the organization.  She also helped set up two start-up organizations on their processes, procedures, and systems. 

Maria served as a member on the local mission’s board for over five years at her local church, where she headed up all local mission activities for the church to help minister and feed the homeless in downtown Houston.  She has attended several third-world mission trips to Honduras, Ecuador, and Saltillo, Mexico. 

Ed is the VP of Construction of Clay Residential.  Ed brings over 25 years of operations experience in the residential housing sector.  Prior to joining Clay Residential Development, he served in leadership roles for several housing organizations, including KB Homes, John Laing Homes, and Century Communities. During his career, he helped grow and develop formidable operations teams for national builders and has led teams to 10x growth over 5 years. 

Ed has volunteered in multiple local recovery efforts post tropical weather events and volunteered in numerous search and rescue efforts over the years.  Ed enjoys spending time with family and supporting the local high school football programs in his spare time. 

Chris Hancock is the Director of Investment Management at Clay Residential. Chris has over ten years of experience making and managing investments in real estate. In his role at Clay Residential, Chris leads the asset management of the firm’s projects from development through stabilization. This includes oversight of all third-party managers, development of leasing and marketing strategy, and management of cash flow and budgets. Chris is additionally responsible for sourcing and underwriting new development opportunities, managing project financing, and executing dispositions.  

Prior to joining Clay Residential, Chris began his career at BlackRock, where he held roles on transaction and portfolio management teams. He was primarily responsible for acquisitions and dispositions for a geographic territory covering the Mid-Atlantic through the Northeastern United States, across the firm’s various capital sources. As a portfolio manager, Chris was also a member of teams responsible for the management of over $2 billion in separate account real estate mandates. These funds invested across the risk spectrum from ground up developments to stabilized core properties in locations in the United States, Europe, and APAC.  

Chris graduated from the University of Michigan in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Clay Residential Breaks Ground on 368-Unit Single-Family Rental Project in Metro Houston

Clay Residential, an affiliate of locally based firm Clay Development, has broken ground on Willow at Marvida, a 368-unit single-family rental project in the northwestern Houston suburb of Cypress. The site is located within Marvida, an 856-acre master-planned community by Land Tejas. The development will consist of 134 detached homes and 234 attached villas.
